Janice Person, MonsantoBlog.com & JanicePerson.com

How to Deal With Your Critics, Blogging Day #2

Janice Person is a fourth generation Memphian who moved to St. Louis in 2011. She can’t remember a time when she wasn’t passionate about communications – taking photos, writing copy, thinking about headlines and working with others. While studying communications in college, a friend of the family hired Janice to work at a farm magazine and something took hold. Janice still remembers the first on-farm interview vividly and has since learned a lot from the farmers she’s met. Having lived in various regions, from a population center like metro New York to a town of 600 in the Mississippi Delta, she has had the chance to see lots of people & places. Her love of communications revolves frequently around sharing other people’s stories — some family and friends are still surprised she became an “aggie” as an adult. She has worked with a number of controversial topics throughout her career in public relations (currently with Monsanto Company) and knows how bad it can feel to have someone take an unfair swipe at a blog post because they have a different opinion. She writes for the company’s Beyond the Rows monsantoblog.com and has a personal blog about her colorful adventures in agriculture, travel (esp. cotton) and with people who rock at janiceperson.com.

When a public relations job opened up at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, she was quick to snag it and began working as CAM’s Public Relations Director where she spent time planning PR campaigns, running their social media programs, identifying emerging trends in the national and international art world and planning buzz-worthy community events. She thought she finally had her dream job, until one afternoon when she got a very interesting note on LinkedIn from a website called Yelp.com…

Fast forward two months, five interviews, and two creative projects later, and you have the Senior Community Manager & Marketing Director for Yelp.com, a website that connects people to great local businesses in the form of consumer reviews. Aimee officially now knows the true meaning of a dream job, and runs Yelp St. Louis’ public relations, social media, and marketing from her couch, her kitchen table, coffee shops, and everywhere in between. In addition to Yelp, Aimee was picked up as on-air talent for FOX Sports Midwest in August of 2011.

Your Company Blog), Blogging Day #2

Linda Doty is a native St. Louis blogger who started her personal blog in 2005 in an attempt to regale us with tales of her crazy life, or possibly as a form of therapy.  She posts about her 2 husbands (not at the same time, for goodness sakes!) and her 5 daughters born over a 21 year span.  She works full time as the Vice President of Stuff Nobody Else Wants to Do in a very large global organization and has focused much of her recent energy on her corporate blog, thus giving her an excuse to blog on the company dime.  While there is no telling exactly what Linda will talk to us about, the plan is that she will present about the importance of cultural sensitivity when writing a work-blog for a multi-national audience.  Given that she has inadvertently offended every country in the United Nations, she considers herself somewhat of an expert on this topic.

You can find Linda’s personal blog at http://justlinda.net
